The lost-wax casting process preserves Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln in sculptural relief, each face recognizable despite the miniature scale. Progressive hand-polishing from filing through rouge brings every presidential feature to a bright finish.
Sculptor Gutzon Borglum and 400 workers spent 14 years carving Mount Rushmore between 1927 and 1941. Each face is approximately 60 feet tall — the equivalent of a six-story building. The monument draws nearly three million visitors per year. A sterling silver jump ring comes attached.
