The 3D lost-wax casting starts with a hand-sculpted wax model that gets encased in investment plaster and burned away at 1,350 degrees Fahrenheit. Molten sterling silver, heated past 1,640 degrees, fills the resulting cavity under centrifugal force, locking in architectural detail that stamping and pressing simply cannot achieve. Each piece is then hand-filed and polished to a mirror finish.
Built in 1817 and standing only 110 feet tall, Old Baldy has outlasted hurricanes, Civil War bombardment, and nearly two centuries of Atlantic storms at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. The charm measures 3/8" x 7/8" with a sterling silver jump ring included and attached. Wear it as a pendant, add it to a charm bracelet, or pair two with ear wires for coastal-themed earrings.
