The yo-yo traces its origins to ancient Greece, where terracotta discs on strings were played with by children around 500 BC. The name "yo-yo" comes from the Philippines, where it may have been used as a weapon. In 1928, Pedro Flores brought the yo-yo to America and launched a craze that has never fully faded.
