The Boston Terrier's round head, short muzzle, erect ears, and compact body are all faithfully rendered. One of the first breeds developed entirely in the United States, the Boston Terrier descends from a cross between an English Bulldog and a white English Terrier in Boston around 1870. It became the official state dog of Massachusetts in 1979 — and the first American breed to be recognized by the AKC.
